<p>New monoazo dyestuffs (I) are imidazo(1,5-a)pyridine cpds. of formula (A) (in which one of R and R1 is a G-A-N=N- gp. and the other is H or an electron donor gp. A is an aromatic carbocyclic gp. G is a (gp. capable of forming a) chelating gp. adjacent to the azo gp. R2 is H, halogen or alkyl. Y is H,OH, (alkyl- or aryl-) amino, cyclic amino or -NH-SO2-R3. R3 is alkyl, aryl, (dialkyl)amino or cyclic amino. n= 0 or 1). Co,Cu,Ni,Zn and Mg complexes of (I) are also claimed. New hydrazines (II) are of formula (A) (in which R is H2N-NH. R1 is H, (cyclo)alkyl, aralkyl, alkylamino, arylamino, mercapto, alkylthio or arylthio. R2 is H. n= 0). (I) are specified for use as mobile dyestuffs in Ag halide emulsions for the colour diffusion transfer process, which are released by immobile cpds. during alkaline development and can be complexed by metal ions. The Cu and Ni complexes are specified as cyan image dyestuffs. Metallised (I) are also useful for dyeing and printing synthetic materials (e.g. wool, polyamides and polyurethanes), whilst unmetallised (I) are esp. useful for colouring polyolefins contg. metals, e.g. Ni-modified polypropylene, giving reddish-yellow, greenish-blue or green shades with good fastness.
