Contaminated water to which a precipitant is added is fed to a flocculation tank for the formation of chemical precipitation and floc. The water with the floc formed therein is then passed to a settling tank where the floc is separated from the water by gravitational separation. The purified water is then discharged from the tank. In the flocculation tank, the water is passed through a bed of granular material in order to form a high-density, compact floc, which settles more easily and can be separated off more easily in the settling tank, than a floc which is formed in an open volume of water in the flocculation tank. |
