Can has at least part made of an electrolytically chromated steel sheet with a Cr-contg. surface layer consisting of a layer or Cr and a lauer of Cr oxide. The Cr layer is 20-300 mg/square metre thick and the Cr oxide layer is 5-50 mg/square metre thick based on the amount of Cr. The steel sheet surface is such that the ratio of the peak-peak distance(OP-P) of KL2.3L2.3 of oxygen to the base-peak distance (CrB-P)_of chromium in the resulting Auger electron spectrum satisfies the relationship (OP-P) / (CrB-P) / 1.5-6.5 under specified operating conditions of the spectrometer. The can has superior adhesion to organic coatings and resists deterioration at high temp.
