PURPOSE:To grind the entire peripheral cutting edges of a drill, by providing a stopping claw on one of two dead centers for supporting the drill, so that the claw is put in the flute of the drill below its peripheral part. CONSTITUTION:A drill 1 to be ground is supported by dead centers 2, 3 opposed each other. One dead center 2 is fitted with a torque transmission member 4 which is positioned in the axial direction by an adjusting screw 6 fitted in the peripheral groove 12 of the center. A stopping claw 9 whose diameter is smaller than the drill 1 is provided on the tip of the torque transmission member 4 so that the claw is put in the flute 10 of the drill. The drill 1 is rotated through the torque transmission member 4 while a rotating grindstone is moved in the axial direction. As a result, the peripheral cutting edges 5 of the drill 1 are completely ground at a time. |
