PURPOSE:To heighten the accuracy of symmetry between both the sides of a lens or the like, by machining a reference holding surface on a machinable element bonded to the workpiece, one side of which is already machined and by machining the other side of the workpiece on the basis of the holding surface of the element. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece mount/demount means 2, 2 are rotatably supported so that they are opposed to each other. A machine frame 7, which holds rotary machining tools 6', 6', is provided so that the frame can be rotated around an axis (b) perpendicular to that (a) of main shafts. A workpiece 30 is held by one mount/demount means 2 so that a spherical surface 35 with its center 36 on the axis (a) is generated by one tool 6'. A machinable element 31 is bonded to the machined spherical surface 35 so that a spherical surface with its center 32 on the axis (a) is generated on the element by grinding. After that, the workpiece 30 having the element 3 is transferred onto the other mount/demout means 2 so that the other side of the workpiece is machined to a concave surface by the other tool 6'. The workpiece 30 and the machinable element 31 are then separated from each other by a solvent. A lens or the like 34 is thus manufactured. |
