PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield free from loss without using a high-pressure reaction and without taking investment and operation into consideration specifically, by subjecting methyl nitrite as a raw material to gas- phase contact reaction in the presence of a catalyst of a metal of platinum group. CONSTITUTION:Methyl nitrile alone or in a state of being diluted with a proper inert gas is subjected to contact rection in gas phase in the presence of a catalyst of a metal of platinum group usually at 80-200 deg.C, preferably at atmospheric pressure -about 20atm., to give the desired compound. Palladium nitrate (II), palladium chloride (II), palladium bromide (II), etc. may be cited as the catalyst of a metal of platinum group, and preferably supported by a proper carrier in the form of its use. In the preparation, for example, the reaction may be carried out while methanol being reacted with nitrogen monoxide, to form methyl nitrate in the reaction system. |
