PURPOSE:To prevent the elevation of the internal pressure of a cell by occluding hydrogen gas produced in the cell and to improve the reliability of the cell by a construction wherein a hydrogen-occluding material made of alloy is mounted on a portion in the gaseous phase in the cell. CONSTITUTION:There are shown a cell case 1, an insulating plate 2, a lead wire 11 of an anode, a lead wire 12 of a cathode, and a hydrogen-occluding material 13 installed on the upper insulating plate. When a sealed alkaline cell is charged with power rapidly, the cell occludes low pressure hydrogen gas generated at the time of overdischarging, giving effect to the reduction of pressure in the cell, and will never increase the internal pressure again because it will not discharge the hydrogen it has occluded once at the normal temperature. Accordingly, when the cell is incorporated into portable equipment, it is unnecessary to worry about abnormal pressure, gas leakage and the like, while the reliability of the cell is improved. |
