PURPOSE:To eliminate missed characters, a damaged printing wire and the like with an appropriate replacement of a ribbon by indicating the actual number of printed characters as the number restricted as compared with the limit to characters to be printed of the ink ribbon previously memorized in a section for storing the number of characters to be printed necessary for maintenance. CONSTITUTION:Control data are fed to an interface circuit 3 while printing data equivalent to one line is fed to a buffer circuit 4 through the circuit 3. A motor control circuit 9 controls the driving of pulse motors 11a and 11b for feeding paper and driving the carriage under the control of a microprocessor 1. A printing control circuit 6 is so arranged that the data fed to the buffer circuit 4 are converted to printing signals to print one character at a time while making a processor 1 to determine whether they are KANA characters, KANJI characters or the like and then, memorized in the buffer circuit 4. Then, after the end of printing for one line, the characters are counted and the counted value is stored in a section 5 for memorizing actual number of printed characters. The actual counted value is compared with the number of characters to be printed previously memorized in a section 2a for memorizing the number of characters to be printed and the timing of replacing the ribbon is informed by a speaker 16 or the like. |
