PURPOSE:To provide superior strength and cold workability to a carbon steel wire rod by patenting the rod with warm water of above 70 deg.C under a press. above atmospheric press. CONSTITUTION:Carbon steel wire rod 2 contg. C; 0.4-0.9%, Si; 0.15-0.30% and Mn; 0.30-0.80% is reheated in heating furnace 3, cooled in vessel 4 filled with warm water of above 70 deg.C, coiled roung coiler 5, and reheating patented. At this time, compressed air is injected into vessel 4 through air injection holes 6 to pressurize the water to atmospheric press. +0.2 atm-atmospheric press. +5 atm, or vessel 4 is deepened and rod 2 is passed through the vessel in the vicinity of the bottom to be applied with the above hydraulic press. Thus, the cooling speed of rod 2 is increased, the pearlite transformation temp. lowers, forming fine pearlite structure, and the tensile strength and cold workability are enhanced. In case of direct patenting, rod 2 leaving finish rolls 1 is treated in the same way as indirect patenting through pinch rolls 3 and coiler 4. |
