PURPOSE:To obtain the titled catalyst by a method wherein a refractory inorg. carrier is impregnated with an org. solvent containing a platinum group metal salt as a solute and the impregnated carrier is fired while an active metal is reduced in the surface layer part thereof. CONSTITUTION:A refractory inorg. carrier such as alumina, or silica-alumina is impregnated with an org. solvent such as alcohols or ketones containing a paltinum group metal salt such as chloride or the like of platinum or palladium as a solute. When the impregnated carrier is fired, an active metal is supported on the surface layer and simultaneously reduced. Because this platinum group metal supported catalyst is prepared by a simple process, the reduction of a production cost is enabled. |
