PURPOSE:To eliminate labors required for arranging direction of slips, by installing a character direction indicating switch to a hand-hold type character reader and sending pattern of characters to a discriminating circuit under the same condition of under a rotated condition. CONSTITUTION:The light from lamps 2a and 2b mounted in a hand-hold type reader 13 irradiates characters on a slip 1 and its reflected light is supplied to a light receiving element 4 through a lens 3. The reflected light received by the light receiving element 4 is subjected to a photoelectric conversion 5 and converted into binary codes, and then, sent to a pattern memory circut 7. The character pattern planted in the pattern memory circuit 7 is supplied to the input of an AND circuit 9b through the input of an AND circuit 9a and a character pattern reversing circuit 8. The output of the AND circuits 9a and 9b supplied to the input of an OR circuit 10. A switch 12 is used for indicating direction and when it is set to the (a) side the AND circuit 9a gets the continuity and when it is set to the (b) side, the AND circuit 9b gets the continuity. In this way, reading can be performed without turning slips even when characters on the recording medium are arranged in the reverse direction, and thus, reading efficiencies are improved. |
