NEW MATERIAL:Koningic acid having the following characteristics: elemental analysis, C 60.29%, H 6.26%, O 33.45%; molecular weight, 280; molecular formula, C15H20O5; melting point, 46-48.5 deg.C; specific rotation, [alpha]D<25>=+24.1 deg. (C=1 ethanol); solubility, soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, benzene, 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, etc., insoluble in hexane, petroleum ether, 2% hydrochloric acid and water; physical properties, acidic, white color. USE:An agent for inhibiting biosynthesis of cholesterol. It has the activity to lower the cholesterol level in blood. PROCESS:Trichoderma Koningii M3947 strain (FERM-P No.5904) is cultured aerobically in a liquid medium, especially by submerged technique, preferably at 6- 8pH and 25-35 deg.C for 24-300hr, and the product is extracted and purified to obtain the koningic acid. |
