A twin roll mill for grinding cereals has rolls made of plastics materials. Compared with use of metal rolls, the plastics rolls are quieter, lighter and offer a softer initial impact on the grain. The lower inertia of the plastics rolls is safer and less readily establishes resonant vibration at high roll speeds. The roll surfaces may be smooth or textured, opt. are of glass fibre reinforced resin or of a hydrocarbon polymer. In an example, walls were fixed to metal shafts via pairs of end plates keyed to the shaft and anchored concentrically into recesses at the ends of the cylindrical plastic roll bodies by wood screws or equivalent fastenings.
|
