Two intersecting fan beams (4, 5) are generated with two orthogonal beam radiators (2, 3), only one of which is used for reception of response signals, whereas both are used to transmit monitoring signals so that the only transponders which respond are those which are located in the intersection zone (6) of the two fan beams (4, 5).
