PURPOSE:To facilitate processing of an actual time and to reduce a buffer memory capacitor, by a method wherein a picture, read in a picture unit, is divided into a given threshold using a dither matrix of a given size as a discriminating unit of a given size for dither-processing. CONSTITUTION:A picture, being a processing object, is read by a scanner SC, and a picture density signal is sent to a comparator CMP and a buffere memory BUF(2) via a quantizer Q. The comparator CMP compares the input signal with a matrix element from a dither matrix circuit D to decide whether it is black or white, and the result is sent to a buffer memory BUF(1). Based on the outputs of the circuit D and the comparator CMP, a processor CPU counts in order accumulating frequencies belonging to white, black, and intermediate tones (1), (2) of a picture region of a given size, and alternately outputs them via a switch circuit. This facilitates processing of an actual time and causes reducing of the capacity of the buffer memories. |
