The present invention relates to an expanding and retaining element which is intended for rear-engagement fastening in a blind bore and is formed by a metal or plastic sleeve, the lower part of which is cylindrical and the upper part of which tapers conically. The latter is slotted and forms so-called sleeve elements, which have engagement hooks, projecting at right-angles, at the top end for the back-drilled portion of the blind bore, and can be moved into the functioning position by means of a grub screw which can be adjusted in the interior of the sleeve via an internal thread.
