PURPOSE:To prevent the flaws and the rippled surfaces and to improve the yield by mixing 1 or >=2 kinds of carboxylic acids with water at the specific compounding ratios and coating the mixture on the inside walls of a mold thereby casting steel ingots. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. contg. 5-90wt% one or >=2 kinds out of carboxylic acids of maleic acid, fumaric acid, maleic anhydride, fumaric anhydride, benzoic anhydride, gallic acid, tannic acid, etc. is coated on the inside walls of a mold. After drying, the molten steel is charged in the mold, whereby the production of the splashes and the rippled surfaces are prevented and the molten steel is cleaned. The reason for limiting the mixing ratios lies in that with the <=5wt% aq. carboxylic acid soln. the sticking on the mold is poor and with the >=90wt% aq. carboxylic acid the viscosity is high and this makes coating difficult. |
