For shutting off cylinders of a multicylinder internal combustion engine, a swivel member for the relevant lifting valves on the camshaft is accommodated so that it is displaceable according to the cam lift and by means of an adjusting lever, swivel mounted on the camshaft, and a driver, capable of swivelling about the axis of rotation of the camshaft into two limit positions so that in the one limit position an effective connection is made between the cam and the respective lifting valve by way of an intermediate plate of the swivel member, whilst in the second limit position this effective connection is cancelled and the lifting valve thereby switched off. Because the outer surface of the swivel member runs in a radius and interacts with the tappet, switching on and off is stepless and thereby wear-free. |
