Data display unit for vehicle - has output of base lamp directed over optical conductor onto keyboard surface

The data display and keyboard for use in vehicles is equipped with additional illumination for night time use. The unit has a rectangular box housing (1) with operating keys (4) on the top surface. At the forward end of the unit is located a display of seven segment LCD or LED elements (2) that are located behind a lid (7). The lid is produced as an optical conductor that directs light from a bulb (6) onto the surface of the keyboard. The illumination is produced automatically when the lid is raised.
