This kitchen waste container is kept in a cupboard with a side hinged door. On the floor of the cupboard is a pedestal. The base rim of the container bucket seats into a ridge behind a cam on the pedestal. The cam is at the top of a sloping surface. Fitted into the pedestal behind the bucket is a rod (22) which is connected by a hinge arrangement (25) to the bucket lid. When the cupboard door is closed, the bucket is held upright by a rail on the door. On opening the door the bucket falls forward till its base rests on the sloping pedestal surface while the lid (17) is pulled up by the rod (22) hinged at the rear.
