PURPOSE:To reduce the mixing parts of the dissimilar kinds and to improve yield by providing means of moving the glippers at the leading ends of the carrying-in arms which grip the iron plates to be inserted into a mold in changing of the steel kinds vertically and transversely. CONSTITUTION:When respective the glippers 24 grip iron plates 29 to be inserted in accordance with the operation command for changing the steel making to a different kind, the carrying-in arms 11 are swiveled to the carrying-in positions of the solid lines in proximity to a tundish 2. Next, gripper holders 22 are advanced to insert the plates 29 horizontally into the small spacings S between the bottom end of the nozzles 3 and the top surface of a mold 4 and are stopped right above the charging ports 4a. In this state, the holders 22 and the glippers 24 are lowered together with moving bodies 15 to insert the plates 29 into the ports 4a and to sink the same down to the prescribed depth in the molten steel. Thereupon, the glippers 24 are moved slightly transversely to bring the one end edge of the plates 29 into abutment on the inside walls of the ports 4a. Since the slag is stuck usually on these inside walls, the plates 29 are melt-stuck and held to and by this. |
