A directional control valve (10) for hydraulic systems is proposed, the mechanical catch device (12) of which can be hydraulically disengaged in working positions (I and II) but cannot be hydraulically released in the free-flow position (F). Arranged on a spool extension (42) of the longitudinal spool (15) in the area of the catch means (46, 47, 49, 51) are longitudinal grooves (50) which serve as blocking means and in the free-flow position interrupt the connection for the releasing control-oil flow to the pressure space (48). During the parallel operation of several directional control valves, unintentional disengagement in the free-flow position is avoided, the catch device (12) in the directional control valve (10) being of especially compact and simple construction. <IMAGE>
