The invention relates to a brush, in particular for applying and spreading paints or the like, consisting of an applicator body for the liquid paint and a handle connected thereto, the intention being for the handle to be connected releasably to the applicator body. In addition to preventing the often valuable bristle parts from drying out, the purpose is to provide a brush which, by simple means, can be adapted in an optimum manner to the respective application requirements so that storing a multiplicity of different brush shapes and sizes can be avoided. For this purpose, the applicator body is to consist of a plurality of separate bristle carriers which are or can be connected to one another and each of which is fitted with a receiver for mounting the handle.
