The invention describes a metering device and a unit for controlling the supply of intravenous liquids, a flow-through duct being provided in a housing which can be connected with a stock of intravenous liquid and a line for a supply needle. The metering device contains a metering peg which can be axially displaced in the duct relative to a valve seat and bounds a flow-through duct and a recess having a variable flow-through area, which are adjustable relative to the valve seat, in order to enable control between the maximum through-flow on rinsing and in the locked position. In the preferred exemplary embodiment the metering peg is actuated with a control cam which is in engagement with part of the peg forming a tap. The control cam can be manually adjusted by means of a dial on the device in order to enable accurate, reproducible and continuous adjustment of the through-flow between the upper and lower limits of the through-flow. The unit contains the metering device, a stock of intravenous liquid, a drip chamber and a supply device.
