PURPOSE:To stabilize contact by covering the light emission or photodetection surface of a projecting or photodetecting element with a transparent filter, fixing an elastic transparent thin film closely onto the filter, and then bringing the transparent thin film into close contact with the tip of an optical fiber when a plug and a socket are coupled. CONSTITUTION:In a socket 1, a printed substrate 24 mounting a projecting and a photodetecting circuit, a projecting element 25, and a photodetecting element 26 are stored. The substrate 25 and elements 25 and 26 are fixed with a holder 33. The light emission surface of the element 25 and the photodetection surface of the element 26 are covered with a transparent filter 31 made of transparent resin. On the opposite surfaces to the surfaces of the filter 31 where the elements 25 and 26 come into contact, an elastic transparent thin film 32 is fixed closely. A plug 5 fitted to the end part of an optical fiber cable 4 has an engagement projecting part 51 for a fiber holder 50 and when it is inserted into the engagement recess part 31 of the socket 1, the tips of projecting parts 53 and 54 touch the film 32 and then the pawl 59 of the plug 5 enters the hole 39 of a socket 1 to bring the film 32 and the tips of optical fibers 41 and 42 into close contact, thus holding the plug and socket in said state. |
