<p>A method of recovering a metallic value from a metalliferous fume, i.e. gaseous effluent containing metalliferous particles, arising in smelting, refining and similar processes. The fume is drawn through a fluidised bed of particles (16) of metalliferous mineral or metallurgical flux, to which an electric field and a liquid binder are applied, to provide a product having a strongly adhesive outer layer of fume and a core of co-extractable mineral or flux, well suited to recovery by established extraction techniques. Two fluidised beds may be used in series in a method of partially segregating a fume of mixed metalliferous species, where one species has been generated by chemical reaction and nucleation in the gas phase, whereby the recovery of metallic values may be further facilitated.
