PURPOSE:To make free the working space of a support table for the work and reduce the sizes of the support table and a bed by retractably placing a tool magazine on the lower side of an upper part of a double housing type column, in a double housing type machine tool. CONSTITUTION:When changing a tool on a spindle 7, a driving cylinder device 18 is moved forwardly and a tool holder 16 is set into a tool engaging-disengaging position conforming to a slide position of the spindle 7. Then, the spindle 7 is slidden to a position directly above the tool holder 16 emptied and is moved downward in the vertical direction, a tool 17 is gripped by the holder 16 and the spindle 7 is moved upward in the vertical direction. Thereafter, the spindle 7 is slidden to the position directly above the tool holder 16 by which the desired tool 17 is gripped, and the tool 17 is supported. |
