The electronic surveillance unit comprises at least one alarm detector probing the situation in an object, and at least one changeover connector which switches the detector on and off. A data memory (5) receives, either continuously or at regular intervals, data as to the surveillance unit operational situation, the position of the changeover connector (3a-d), and the situat situation of the alarm detectors (2a-d). - A connection (11) is provided via which a central unit (1) is connectable to a programming and recording unit (12) for transfer of data from the memory (5). The programming and recording unit permits reconstruction of a process being used in the surveillance unit, and can display visually transferred data. The memory (5) used can be of the semi-conductor, tape, or disc type, and the central unit (1) will automatically cut out a faulty alarm detector (2a-d) from the surveillance position, and continue probing using the remaining detectors.
