PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF HIGH PUSITY BENZENE

After hydrogenative dealkylation, the crude benzene was purified by fractional distn. and subsequent acid clay treatment at <= 120≦̸C. Treatment at a higher temp., e.g. 170≦̸C, caused discoloration. Thus, the benzene fraction was treated with acid clay at 80-100≦̸C/ 20 kg/ cm2 to lower its thiophene content from 1.5 to 0.7 mg/L and Br no. from 12.9 to<= 1 mg /100 g.
