PURPOSE:To improve an electromagnetic conversion characteristic of a magnetic recording medium in the low frequency band, by laminating the first vapor-deposited magnetic thin film whose incident angle is varied continuously from high to low, and the second vapor-deposited magnetic thin film whose incident angle is varied continuously in reverse, on a base body. CONSTITUTION:The first vapor-deposited magnetic thin film 1 having columnar structure 11 is formed by making a flexible base body B whose surface roughness is <= 0.012mum run in the direction as indicated with an arrow by a cooling can 22, and vapor- depositing a magnetic metallic material, continuously varying an incident angle of a vapor low to a low incident angle of 45-75 deg. from a high incident angle of 45-90 deg. against a normal of the surface of the base body B from an evaporation source 23. Subsequently, the second magnetic thin film 2 having columnar structure 12 is laminated by vapor-depositing a magnetic metallic material, continuously varying an incident angle of a vapor flow to the high incident angle from the low incident angle in the direction being symmetrical to a normal of the surface of the base body B from an evaporation source 21. In this way, it is possible to obtain a magnetic recording medium which is excellent in a magnetic characteristic, an abrasion resisting property and a weather resisting property. |
