PURPOSE:To reduce the dot area of the dot image of a lith type sensitive material without lowering the density by using a ceric salt and an acid. CONSTITUTION:A silver image is reduced with a reducer consisting of >=0.1mol/l ceric salt and <=0.3 N acid. A higher acid concn. has been considered to be preferable in conventional reduction using a ceric salt, yet it has been found that a remarkably reduced dot area, that is, an extended reduction width is obtd. at a low concn. such as <=0.3 N. Ceric sulfate, ceric nitrate, ceric acetate or the like is used as said ceric salt, and said acid is sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid or the like. A surfactant, a mercapto compound, a thickener, etc. may be added. |
