PURPOSE:To provide clear type and high-speed printing by a method wherein an ink roller is normally held in a position separated from the surface of a printing type and moved to the position in contact with the surface of the printing type when the roller operates to select the printing type. CONSTITUTION:When printing is made, a stepping motor 2 is first operated to move a printing type 5 to the predetermined printing position above a platen 1. As the selected printing type 5 approaches an ink roller 13, a solenoid 11 is operated to turn a rotary member 12 to allow the ink roller to touch the surface of the printing type specified, while ink is supplied to the surface of the printing type. The solenoid is turned off as quickly as possible after the ink has been supplied and the ink roller 13 is separated from the surface of the printing type. When the printing type 5 is moved to the printing position above the platen 1, a magnet 8 is energized so that a printing hammer 6 is driven through the aid of a lever 7 to make the surface of the printing type strike printing paper above the platen 1. A spoke 4 of a printing type ring 3 is not damaged because the ink roller 13 touches the surface of the printing type under pressure only for a short time. |
