PURPOSE:To reduce the number of preparatory transfer operations by a method wherein a memory storing data for controlling printing for two lines or more detects the presence or absence of data in the second line depending on the last printing position in the first line, and allows a carriage to continuously move or stop based on that detection. CONSTITUTION:A control 11 functions to control a serial printer as a whole, while an interface 12 is connected to external equipment, so that printing data, printing control data and the like are supplied. A carriage control 13 controls the movement of the carriage based on the data contained in a control data memory 14 under control of the control 11. A carriage driving portion 15 drives the carriage with a printing head according to a control signal given by the carriage control 13. The data for controlling printing in view of the carriage transfer and paper feeding given by the interface 12 are stored in the control data memory 14 under control of control. |
