The device is used for blocking a hole in e.g. the wall of a reservoir. It includes an inflatable bladder mounted on the distal end of a rigid cane so that it can be manoeuvred into the hole by an operator holding the other end of the cane. A source of hardenable plastics foam which is carried by the operator supplies the bladder via a pair of flexible tubes and a pistol-type control unit . The bladder is oref. surrounded by a textile envelope to prevent it from rupturing. The bladder is held in place in the hole until the foam is hardened and the cane is then removed.
