Process for adjusting the operating position of blow-in lances relative to a molten bath and apparatus for carrying out the process

Particularly in the production of steel, substances must be introduced into the molten bath by means of blow-in lances during the reaction process. Adequate immersion of the blow-in lances which burn away is ensured by a suitable advancing movement. The functional safety of such processes and apparatuses can be improved at an acceptable cost by adjusting the operating position of each blow-in lance by means of a current control loop. The instantaneous operating position of the blow-in lance is determined by means of a measuring process which serves to initiate a control operation for advancing the blow-in lance. The apparatus according to the invention has a measuring circuit (17) which is equipped with a measuring resistance (13) and to which the blow-in lance (6) and the molten bath (4) belong. At least one measuring current controller (19) whose control line (19') is connected to the advancing unit (7, 8, 9) for the blow-in lance (6) is coordinated with the measuring resistance (13). A continuous advancing movement is achievable by means of a down-circuit speed controller (22) and, if required, a motor current controller (23) for the adjusting motor (10) of the advancing unit (7, 8, 9). <IMAGE>
