The invention relates to a fluidised bed appliance and design for fluidising bulk materials which are not readily fluidisable and/or tend to stick together. The purpose of the invention is to break down the agglomerations of material which impair fluidisation, and to collapse any rutholes which may form. According to the invention this is achieved by the fluidised bed (2) containing a mechanical motive device (3) for the fluidised material, and the fluidised-bed bottom (2) is wholly or partly matched geometrically to the motive device (3). The fluidised-bed bottom (2) may have a V shape with a rounded bottom edge. Arranged in the lower rounding there is a rotatable roll (3). The roll may be designed as a brush.
