Process for improving the wetfastness properties of dyeings or prints of hydroxyl-containing textile material obtained with a direct or reactive dye by using an after-treatment agent comprising a reaction product or a mixture of such a reaction product of a polybasic amino compound (A) with an N-methylol compound (B) or with formaldehyde or with a formaldehyde-releasing compound and, if desired, with a curing catalyst (C), characterised in that the dye and the polybasic amino compound (A) produce a precipitate in aqueous solution, which, after washing, isolation and drying is stable in dilute alkalis at a minimum pH of 12 up to room temperature, i.e. is no longer soluble in a dilute alkali solution.
