A method for producing an electrical capacitor element is proposed, in which a wound, folded or layered stack is formed by winding or folding dielectric films provided with vapour-deposited metallic plate layers, plate layers of opposite polarity being arranged offset with respect to one another in the direction of the winding or folding axes, and hence in each case only edge regions of identical pole plate layers being accessible at the ends of the winding or stack. These prefabricated windings or stacks are immersed in a current-free autocatalytic immersion bath before connection to the forwarding contact means, in which bath a metal dissolved therein, preferably nickel, is precipitated onto the edge regions, with which contact is to be made, of the plate layers and reinforces these edge regions. In consequence, a uniform, virtually gap-free additional coating can be applied to the edge regions of the metallic plate layers with which contact is to be made, without thermally stressing the winding or stack and in a manner which is consistent with production.
