<p>A method is provided for detecting abnormal combustion phenomena in an internal combustion engine and a device for implementing such method according to which a parameter characterizing the combustion is detected by means of a sensor, preferably a light sensor. To distinguish between the abnormal phenomena and the normal phenomena of the combustion, the signal filtered from the point of view of its symmetry with respect to an immaginery symmetry axis passing by the maximum point of the signal is analyzed. If the signal is not symmetrical with respect to such axis, an identification signal of an abnormal combustion is provided. To implement such method, a symmetry pulse is generated which marks the occurence of the signal maximum. As a function of this pulse, two values are produced, one characterizing the profile of the signal before the maximum and the other one characterizing the profile of the signal after the maximum, and those values are compared between each other.</p> |
