The device according to the invention comprises one or more discs which are provided on the rotor of a fluid kinetic machine for the purpose of automatic adjustment to axial thrust and which are arranged on the discharge and/or intake side of the rotor, each disc being mounted on the shaft or on the rotor neck in such a way that it can rotate and be displaced axially. In general, said mounting can also take place on an appropriate point of the casing. The discs divide the cavities lateral to the rotor into two chambers. For the purpose of automatic adjustment to the axial thrust acting on the discs on both sides, the latter are equipped with a control shoulder, each of which forms, together with the appropriately fashioned casing section, the control gap which controls the relief water flowing through the bores to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the disc position. At their external diameter, the discs are in each case equipped with a collar which covers the cylindrical surface of the rotor and with the cylindrical surface (5) in question forms a throttling gap. On the side of one chamber, the discs carry the collar which projects into a groove of the casing and forms two throttling gaps. Projecting into other chamber, the disc has, e.g. within the bores, a spacing collar.
