PURPOSE:To prepare a ketone represented by a specific general formula, in high efficiency, from the cultured product obtained by the aerobic cultivation of a bacterial strain belonging to Corynebacterium genus in a medium containing a secondary alcohol represented by a specific general formula. CONSTITUTION:A bacteria strain belonging to Corynebacterium and capable of oxidizing secondary alcohols, e.g. Corynebacterium equi IFO 3730, ATCC 6939, ATCC 7698, etc. is cultured aerobically in a medium containing a secondary alcohol of formulaI(R<1> and R<2> are alkyl, aralkyl, etc.), e.g. hexadecan-6-ol, tetradecane-7,8-diol, etc. Any medium suitable for the growth of bacteria can be used for the purpose. The ketone of the general formula II can be obtained by extracting the cultivation product with an organic solvent, and purifying by silica gel chromatography, recrystallization, etc. |
