<p>An anthraquinone dye free from water-solubilising and ionic substituents of the general formula:
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="32" wi="50" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>wherein Q is NH<Sub>2</Sub>, OH, alkyl, aryl, N0<Sub>2</Sub> or halo; n is 0 to 4; each X independently is H, -SR, -NZ<Sub>1</Sub>Z<Sub>2</Sub> or Q: each R independently is alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; Z<Sub>1</Sub> & Z<Sub>2</Sub> are independently H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; provided that there are at least two different -SR groups and that where only two X's represent -SR groups at least one R is aryl and the two -SR groups are in the 1 & 5 or the 1 & 8 positions. In addition to the normal textile applications the dye is suitable for use in the colouration of liquid crystals for electro-optic displays.</p> |
