The method consists in melting the snow, as it is progressively collected on a road, by introducing and dispersing it into heated and stirred water in a tank, and in pouring the water resulting from the melting onto the road. Machine for the implementation of the method comprising a motor vehicle (1) carrying, at the front, a case (2) with a spout (5) half-filled with water; means for circulating (9, 10) and heating (12) water; means for collecting (8a), introducing (8), dispersing and stirring the snow in the case. These dispersion and stirring means comprise two groups of coaxial drums, which are perforated and provided with axial openings (13a, 13b; 14a, 14b; ...) and with baffle plates (13c, 13d; 14c, 14d; ...). The drums of one group alternate with those of the other group and are driven rotationally in the opposite direction to that of the drums of the other group. The machine lends itself particularly to the clearing of roads and squares of a town, of airport runways, of sports grounds, etc. <IMAGE>
