NEW MATERIAL:SEN-143 having the following characteristics: appearance, white powder, melting point, 214-217 deg.C; elemental analysis, C 57.54%, H 8.4%, N 0%; specific rotation,[alpha]D<24>=-4.2 deg.(C=1.0%, methanol); solubility, soluble in dimethylformamide, methanol, etc., slightly soluble in ethanol, hardly soluble in water, insoluble in benzene, hexane, etc.; stability, stable in neutral aqueous solution; color reaction, positive to iodine and potassium permanganate and negative to ninhydrin and ferric chloride. USE:A specific anticandida agent free from antibacterial and antimycotic activity. It is useful, e.g. for the remedy of deep, superficial or vaginal candidiasis. PROCESS:Bacteria belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing SEN-143 substance, e.g. Streptomyces griseochromogenes SEN-143 strain (FERM- P No.5234), are cultured at 22-30 deg.C and 6-8pH, preferably by deep-tank fermentation with aeration and agitation. |
