The invention concerns a procedure for calculating the remaining billet length of rolled material. Two time measurements are performed along the rolling trajectory, an earlier one in the rolling trajectory P1 and a later one in the trajectory P2, situated after the last pair of rolls, wherein the time measurements T1 and T2 are started when the front end of the billet passes the particular time measurement point and the difference between these time measurements T1-T2 is read off when the rear end of the billet passes the first time measurement point P1. After this, the estimated remaining billet length is calculated in its final dimension by multiplying the time difference by a measured travel speed VM2 for the billet N at the second time measuring point P2, and the amount LA thus obtained is corrected with regard to the exact corresponding length LB and the estimated length measured during the rolling of the preceding billet N-1. <IMAGE> |
