PURPOSE:A phosphorus compound is added to a copolyester containing a small amount of a metal salt of organic sulfonate at any stage of the polymer synthesis or melt spinning and then removed from the resultant fiber, thus producing the titled fiber of high moisture absorption without reduction in yarn strength as well as fibrilation. CONSTITUTION:At any stage where a copolyester from terephthalic acid and an alkylene glycol of 2-6 carbon atoms, which contains a small amount of a metal salt of organic sulfonate of formulaI(Z is aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon group; M<1> is metal; R<1> is ester-forming group; R<2> is ester-forming group), is prepared and melt spun into hollow fiber, a phosphorus compound of formula II (R<3> is organic group; X is hydroxyl; M<2> is metal; n is 0, 1) is added to the copolyester by 0.3-15mol% based on the acid component. Then, the resultant fiber is treated with an aqueous alkali to elute the phosphorus compound by 2- 50wt% to give hollow fiber with fine voids which is oriented in the fiber-axis direction with diameter of 0.01-3mu and length of less than 50 times the diameter and a part of which pass through to the hollow part. |
