<p>Method for providing a protective layer on pieces of copper, opt. alloyed with small amt. of secondary metal such as Cr, Cd, Zr, etc., comprises diffusing Al into the wall of the piece to be protected, forming a layer of cupro-aluminium in the wall, which is resistant to corrosion, wet or dry. The method is esp. suitable for treatment of pistons for diesel engines. The layer is obtd. using Al3Fe powder, a reaction accelerator (NH4Cl) and in certain cases Al2O3. The working temp. and operating time are variable according to the depth of diffusion desired.</p> |
