PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound easily and economically, in high selectivity of especially monoalkylene glycol, by reacting an alkylene oxide with water in the presence of CO2 using a halogen-type anion exchange material as the reaction catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed mainly of the compound of formula II (R1-R4 are H, 1-3C alkyl, 6C aryl, 2-3C alkenyl, or 3-6C cycloalkyl) is prepared by reacting 1mol of the compound of formulaIwith 1-30mol of water in the presence of 0.0001-1mol of CO2 using a halogen-type anion exchange material as the reaction catalyst, at 80-200 deg.C and 2-25kg/cm<2>G pressure. The above catalyst is suitably a commercially available anion exchange resin substituted with a halogen such as chlorine, bromine, iodine, etc., and the exchange capacity of the catalyst is 0.1-10mol% of the compound of formulaI. |
