In order to recover heat from polluted, uncleaned bodies of water, in particular domestic sewage and industrial effluence, the invention provides a device, in which a plurality of evaporator plates are arranged parallel to one another and spaced apart from one another in a housing provided with a main inflow and a main outflow, in which there are located, between the evaporator plates and at a distance from one another, webs which subdivide the space between two evaporator plates in flow channels, that end of the preceding flow channel which is at the rear in the direction of flow and connected by a deflection means to the front end of the flow channel which is downstream in the direction of flow, in which a main inflow is provided for the first flow channel of the first mutually parallel flow channels and a main outflow is provided from the last flow channel of the last mutually parallel flow channels, in which there is provided a deflection means from the end of the flow channel, which is last in the direction of flow, of one plane to the beginning of the flow channel, which is first in the direction of flow, of the flow channels in the next plane, and in which a pump is arranged in the main inflow.
