An aiming method and associated apparatus arrangement, in the case of which a thermal imager is used as the aiming apparatus, with which a laser range finder is integrated. In order to obtain as many common assemblies as possible, only a single receiving channel (1), having only one row of detectors arrangement (12) and one cooler unit (14) is provided for the heat radiation (10) and the laser radiation (8) reflected by the target. In order to be able to use only one row of detectors (12), to be precise a linear row of detectors (12), the heat radiation is passed via a sampling mirror (11), while the received laser radiation is extracted before reaching the sampling mirror. The heat radiation is focused on the inner detectors and the laser radiation on the outer detectors of the same row of detectors, via a specially constructed optical assembly (13, 34, 35, 36). <IMAGE>
